Bannu residents protest prolonged electricity loadshedding.

LAKKI MARWAT -- Residents of Noorar town of Bannu came on roads on Monday to protest excessive electricity loadshedding.

Led by Miryan tehsil council chairman Pir Kamal Shah, the protesters marched from Bokikhel Chowk and reached Bannu-Miryan Road after passing through different bazaars.

Speaking to the protesters, Pir Kamal and others said electricity supply to rural localities remained shut most of the time, disrupting business activities and causing acute water shortage as tubewells could not run.

They said thieves were taking advantage of power suspension as incidents of power cable theft had occurred in the area in recent days.

FILTRATION PLANT: Deputy commissioner Fazal Akbar inaugurated a water filtration plant in Serai Naurang town of Lakki Marwat on Monday.

Helping Hand for Relief and Development, a global humanitarian and relief organisation, funded the filtration plant.

The deputy commissioner said the filtration plant would help provide clean drinking water to residents.

Separately, the deputy commissioner distributed cash and food packages among orphan students and sewing machines among widows at a function held at Government College, Serai Naurang.
