Balochistan Assembly assails Indian citizenship law.

QUETTA -- The opposition and treasury members of the Balochistan Assembly on Tuesday condemned Indian government's new citizenship law which grants citizenship to non-Muslim illegal immigrants from three countries.

The new law applies to Hindus, Christians and other religious minorities who are in India illegally but can demonstrate religious persecution in Muslim-majority Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It does not apply to Muslims.

Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist ruling party argues the measure protects persecuted minorities from their Muslim-majority neighbours.

Leader of the opposition in the assembly Malik Sikandar Khan on a point of order took up the issue in the house when the session began with Deputy Speaker Babar Khan Musakhel in the chair. He criticised the Indian government for passing the contentious bill. 'Imposing the controversial citizenship amendment act is a well-planned conspiracy against Indian Muslims and is against the charter of the United Nations,' he said, adding that Modi was implementing RSS agenda to make India a Hindu state.

He also said the global community must take notice of the recent moves of the Indian government led by the BJP. He urged the Pakistani government to deal with the issue through diplomatic efforts.

Syed Fazal Agha and other members of the assembly declared the citizenship law as conspiracy against minorities.
