Bajaur teachers decry arrests.

KHAR -- Teachers of the Basic Education Community Schools (BECS) in Bajaur tribal district on Thursday criticised Islamabad's police for torturing and arresting their colleagues for staging a protest and warned that they would stage protests along with students if the detainees weren't freed within 48 hours.

The teachers told reporters here that BECS employees belonging to different districts protested low salary in a peaceful manner but Islamabad police committed violence against them.

They claimed that scores of protesting teachers were shifted to different police stations of the federal capital.

The teachers said the arrests shocked the nationwide BECS staff members, who along with thousands of schoolchildren would launch a protest movement if the detainees weren't set free in the next 48 hours.

They criticised the government for not taking tangible steps for their welfare.
