Awareness campaign for H1N1 stressed.

BAHAWALPUR -- Quaid-i-Azam Medical College (QAMC) Principal Prof Dr Javed Iqbal has stressed the need to raise awareness about virus of influenza fever (H1N1) as the winter season has set in.

Talking to Dawn after an anti-polio and anti-dengue seminar held here at the auditorium of QAMC in connection with the World Polio Day on Thursday, Dr Iqbal urged the people to get vaccinated against the disease [influenza fever].

'This injection is available in the open market for Rs500 and it is imperative that each family member may be injected as a preventive measure,' he said.

Regarding the dengue virus, Prof. Javed Iqbal said four local health facilities functioning under his supervision here were equipped with the related stuff to tackle the virus.

He asked the general public to take full advantage of anti-polio campaigns launched by the health.

MPA Dr.Muhammad Afzal, who is also chairman standing committee on specialised healthcare and medical education, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dr. Saifullah Bhatti, Bahawal Victoria Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Azizur Rehman and others also addressed.

On the occasion, an anti-polio walk was also organised.

Meanwhile, five more persons were tested positive for dengue virus on Thursday and admitted to the isolation ward of BVH.
