AVLC arrests 7-member car lifter gang including two women.

KARACHI -- Anti-Vehicle Car Lifting Cell (AVLC) on Sunday claimed to have arrested a 7-member car lifter gang including two women and recovered six cars from their possession.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Arif Aslam Rao, the action has been taken on AVLC's classified information. The arrested accused have been identified as Shujaat, Danish, Attaullah, Ehtesham, Daniel, Qaratalain and Kanwal.

The recovered vehicles, including, Honda Civic, Honda City, Suzuki Cultus and Alto cars which had been stolen from different parts of Karachi and cases had been registered.

The main characters of the group are Qaratul Ain and her husband Shujaat, SSP Arif Aslam Rao said. He said accused used to steal cars to satisfy his drug addiction and for entertainment and the accused has sold two cars.

The rest of the vehicles were left in any area after getting drunk. The arrested women Qaratul Ain's brother-in-law used to wear his late brother's excise police uniform, SSP Rao said. After burning the uniform, the accused started committing the crime wearing his brother's excise cap.

The SSP AVLC said accused have stolen about 20 vehicles in total. The accused Danish is skilled in opening any car. Further investigation is underway against the arrested accused, he said.
