Authorities issued notices on gymkhana's plea.

KARACHI -- The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the commissioner of Karachi, directors general of the Sindh Building Control Authority and the antiquities and archaeology department and others on an application seeking contempt of court proceedings against them.

The single-judge bench headed by Justice Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan also directed all the defendants/alleged contemnors to appear in person on July and warned that actions of alleged contemnors of taking police force into the Karachi Gymkhana and making forced entry in its private club be met through independent proceedings if so proved.

The bench also suspended the operation of the letters issued by the defendants against the constructional work being carried out on the premises of gymkhana till July .

The Karachi Gymkhana through its lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam moved an application seeking contempt proceeding against the defendants and submitted that on June 6, the bench had directed the alleged contemnors not to interfere with the developmental and constructional works being undertaken within the boundaries of the club property without due process of law.

However, the counsel argued that the directorate general of the antiquities and archaeology, culture and tourism department on June 9 issued a show-cause notice in which it alleged that president of the club without authorisation had demolished and started construction work in the protected heritage building of Karachi Gymkhana.
