ASI suspended for torture of schoolteachers.

GUJRAT -- The district police officer on Wednesday suspended an assistant sub-inspector of Jalalpur Jattan city police from service for physically torturing some school teachers following a minor road accident.

The DPO Syed Touseef Haider took the action against his subordinates after local teachers lodged a protest and threatened to observe a strike against the alleged torture of their colleagues by ASI Muhammad Asif.

According to protesting teachers, the ASI's motorcycle collided with the bike of a teacher, Abdul Rehman, in a street upon which the policemen thrashed him. When another teacher tried to intervene, the ASI also subjected him to torture and tore his clothes.

They said later the ASI again arrived at the Govenment Islamia High School No 2 in a police van along with some cops to arrest Abdul Rehman.
