Appointment of 'outsiders' to Kohat WSSC board flayed.

KOHAT -- The city's civic administrative official and social circles have denounced the appointment of seven members of the board of directors of Water Supply and Sanitation Company (WSSC) who are permanent residents of Islamabad, Punjab and rural areas outside the six urban union councils except one from Junglekhel, Kohat.

About four years ago the WSSC was given the charge of sanitation and water supply of the six urban union councils, taking it from the tehsil municipal administration in the hope to improve the situation in the city.

Tehsil municipal officer, Kohat, Mohammad Shoeb regretted that it could not find any educated person from the five urban union councils to appoint them as director. He said it was evident from the appointments that WSSC was not interested in sanitation in the city.

He termed the appointments a blatant violation of the governance rules and laws. He said the WSSC recommended the names of only those as directors who would not raise voice against its negligence.

A former nazim, Inayatullah, said that despite many complaints the WSSC had failed to lift garbage from the bazaars and clean the drain in front of Jinnah Plaza.
