ANP vows to resist bids to undo 18th Amendment.

SWABI -- The Awami National Party leadership on Monday vowed to resist the forces bent upon harming the provincial autonomy.

They expressed these views while speaking at a meeting organised to observe the fifth death anniversary of Haji Rehmanullah, who was well-known across the district as Baba-i-Swabi.

The participants paid tribute to the late leader who remained district president for about three decades and got elected twice as MNA.

His brother, Amanullah is currently the ANP's district president.

The ANP leaders said Rehmanullah's death had created a void in the party which could not be filled.

The nationalist leaders were unanimous in their views that the 18th Constitutional Amendment should be kept intact, and warned the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government against any move to undo it.

They resolved to render any sacrifice to protect the constitutional provision 'guaranteeing' provincial autonomy.

Mukhtiar Khan, a former adviser, claimed that ANP was the champion of the provincial autonomy and its leaders from Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan to Asfandyar Wali Khan had continued their fight for the rights of the smaller federating units.

'Any move to undo the amendment will have far-reaching impact on the national politics,' he warned.
