Amjad Islam Amjad stresses need to promote Urdu.

LAHORE -- An evening with famous poet Amjad Islam Amjad was organised at the National History Museum on Saturday where he spoke at length about his work.

This was the first session of 'Shaam-i-Urdu' hosted by the museum and the Citizens Archive of Pakistan and dedicated to the eminent poet.

Amjad Islam Amjad shared some stories and anecdotes from his life, about the time he spent with other notable writers and poets of Urdu literature. He also talked about the history of Urdu literature and how it evolved through time.

'Today, we are in need of a conscious effort to promote Urdu language, starting from one's own household,' he said, referring to the new generation losing touch with a huge part of Pakistan's language and literature.
