Altaf Hussain's bail extended by UK court; trial to start in June next year.

LONDON -- The bail for Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain, in the incitement to violence case against him, was extended on Friday after he appeared before a judge via video link at London's Central Criminal Court.

A trial date was also set on Friday; a preliminary hearing will be held on March 20, 2020 and the trial will begin on June 1.

Altaf Hussain appeared before Justice Sweeney via video link at the crown court famously known as Old Bailey, after a Magistrates court on October 10 passed his case here for trial. It is not uncommon for a hearing of this nature to be conducted via video link. Courts in England may opt for prisoner video link (PVL) to save costs, for security measures or at the request of a lawyer.
