Adult literacy programme reviewed.

LAHORE -- The literacy and non-formal basic education (NFBE) department on Wednesday held a meeting of the steering committee of 'Akal 2' and 'Education Programme' to increase literacy rate in Punjab.

NFBE Secretary Wajihullah Kundi presided over the meeting to review the progress of the education programme in five districts of south Punjab.

He said the regional curriculum would be arranged in view of language and other requirements for the convenience of adults deprived of education in backward areas.

He said thousands of adults would benefit from each of the two programmes. The department is following a comprehensive strategy to improve the quality of life in backward areas through skilled education.

Additional Secretary Literacy Bashir Ahmad Goraya, representatives of school education, Tevta, JICA, Unicef and respective officials participated in the meeting.
