Administration, police officers told to use powers to serve people.

GUJRANWALA -- Punjab Chief Secretary retired Maj Azam Suleman Khan along with Punjab Inspector General of Police Shoaib Dastagir visited Gujranwala and presided over a meeting of all administrative and police officers of the division.

Addressing the officers, the chief secretary said they had been given all the powers that they should use to serve the people and solve their problems. He directed the commissioner, deputy commissioners and police officers to visit the vegetable and fruit markets to ensure the commodities were being sold at fixed rates.

He told the administrative officers to visit government hospitals, basic and rural health centres to assure the presence of doctors and paramedical staff and provision of medicines. The officers should visit government colleges and schools to monitor the presence of teachers, staff and take steps to provide all the facilities there and solve the problems of government educational institutes. He further told the officers to make efforts to plant maximum saplings to end pollution.

Mr Khan also directed the officers to act on the zero-waste policy and take solid steps for the cleanliness of cities. He also directed them to retrieve state land from land grabbers and remove encroachments from graveyards. A proposal to establish Parks and Horticulture Authority in Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad was also reviewed in the meeting.
