AC, DC get powers to fine violators of coronavirus restrictions.

KARACHI -- The Sindh governor on Wednesday promulgated an ordinance that allows officers of deputy and assistant commissioner ranks to impose heavy fines on people violating government orders issued in the wake of the coronavirus.

The ordinance titled Sindh Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) OrdiAnanAAce-2020, a statement said, came into force at once. It defines the powers of the deputy and assistant commissioners of the province to establish the writ of the state.

'In the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014, hereinafter referred to as the said Act, in section 3, in sub-section (3), after the words Deputy Commissioner, the words of Assistant Commissioner or any other Officer shall be inserted. In the said Act, for section 4, the following shall be substituted,' said a statement quoting the ordinance's text.

'Penalty: whoever contravenes or disobeys the order passed by the Government or the officers empowered or the regulations made under this Act, without prejudice to any punishment to which he may be liable under any other law...
