95pc of child abduction cases resolved: police.

ISLAMABAD -- The capital police resolved 95pc of child abduction cases and reunited 69 children with their families during 2019.

A statement issued on Monday said on the instruction of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, a special standard operating procedure (SOP) was issued to check cases of child abduction.

Special desks were set up at the level of police stations under supervision of DIG (operations) Waqaruddin Syed and zonal SPs for prompt registration of child kidnapping cases.

A total 75 cases were registered in 2019 of which 73 were resolved.As many as 69 children were recovered and reunited with their families.

Of these recovered children, 48 had deliberately left their homes after conflicts with their parents, educational issues or becoming dejected on various reasons. However, the police succeeded in their safe recovery and submitted reports about conclusion of the cases to courts.

Campaigns, including seminars in educational institutions, were organised during which students and their parents were provided awareness as how to avoid such cases.

Meanwhile, 12 cases related to abduction of children were registered during the current year.
