PESHAWAR -- Ninety one per cent of the people dying of Covid-19 remained hospitalised and nine per cent lost their lives to the pandemic at their homes, according to a report

It said that the disease infected most health workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Those, who died of Covid-19, had 85 per cent comorbidities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa compared to 71 per cent recorded nationwide, it added.

The report compiled by National Operation Centre of Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Islamabad said that of the total 3,944 deceased persons, 3,577 (91 per cent) died of Covid-19 in hospitals with average 5.3 days stay in the health facilities.

It said that 367 (nine per cent) breathed their last at their homes. Of the hospitalised patients, 2,070 (57 per cent) remained on ventilators with average 2.88 days hospital stay while 1,538 (43 per cent) didn't receive mechanical ventilation, it added.

The report compiled on Monday said that mortality rate among those falling victims to coronavirus remained the highest in Punjab, which recorded 40 per cent (1673) deaths; Sindh recorded 30 per cent (1673) deaths; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 22 per cent (914); Islamabad three per cent (122); Balochistan 2.8 per cent (114); Azad Jammu and Kashmir one per cent (28); and Gil-Baltistan also registered per cent (24) deaths.

According to it, 75.3 per cent of the deceased persons were above 51 years. They included 3,002 male; 1,164 female and one transgender person.

The victims of the virus included 1,210 people between 51 to 60 years; 1,153 people between 61 to 70 years; 631 people between 41 to 50 years; 591 people between 71 to 80 years; 245 people 31 to 40 years; 172 people between 81 to 90 years; 108 people 21 to 30 years; 33 people between 11 to 20 years; 15 people were 91 and above while nine were one to 10 years.
