4,000 vacancies in Pesco to be filled by March, says minister.

HAIRPUR -- Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan has said that government is aware of staff shortage problems in Pesco, especially Hazara division, and has decided to fill 4,000 vacant posts by March next year.

He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Labour Union, led by its divisional chairman Zahid Malik, that called on him at his office here on Monday.

The union leaders apprised the minister of operational problems that the Pesco management had been facing owing to staff shortage.

They said that workload was being shouldered by a small number of employees while majority of the posts of assistant linemen, bill distributors, meter readers, commercial superintendents and clerical staff had been lying vacant for the last over two years.

They said that despite repeated reminders, the Pesco authorities were yet to make fresh appointments.
