34,700 canines culled during anti-pye dog campaign, court told.

SUKKUR -- The Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court has ordered all deputy commissioners and additional secretary of agriculture to submit weekly progress report on campaign against stray dogs and locusts and in the province.

A double bench comprising Justices Aftab Ahmed Gorar and Khadim Hussain Tunio passed the directive on Friday while hearing a petition filed by a concerned citizen about phenomenal rise in the number of stray dogs and locust attack in Sindh.

Sukkur Deputy Commissioner Ghulam Murtaza Shaikh informed the court that 3,275 dogs had been culled in Sukkur division so far during the ongoing campaign. A representative of local bodies department informed the court that a total of 34,700 dogs had been killed throughout the province with 2,298 dogs culled in Karachi division, 7,296 in Benazirabad division, 717 in Mirpurkhas division and 947 dogs in Hyderabad division.
