31 brick kilns fined over pollution.

BAHAWALPUR -- Thirty-one brick kilns were fined for violation of anti-smog rules while 92 brick kilns and nine ginning factories were served show-cause notices across the division over their failure to observe the anti-smog rules.

This was stated in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Nayyar Iqbal here on Tuesday to review the anti-smog measures and their implementation in the three districts of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

The meeting was told by the officials of Environment Protection Department that a fine of about Rs100,000 had been recovered from the owners of 31 brick kilns, which would be closed down for a month from Nov 15 to Dec 20.

The traffic police officials informed the participants in the meeting that during its campaign against the smoke-emitting vehicles during a month the fine to the tune of over Rs1.2m had been recovered and a number of defective vehicles were also impounded.
