$273m green development programme launched.

LAHORE -- The Punjab government has launched the Punjab Green Development Programme with a cost of $273m to combat environment pollution, including smog, and ensure a clean environment for the people to breath.

Acknowledging World Bank's cooperation for the programme during a meeting with Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam at CM's office on Monday, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said the Punjab government was shifting the brick kilns to zigzag technology.

He said a ban had been imposed on burning the crops residue in the province and six monitoring stations established to monitor air quality.

The CM said 30 new air quality monitoring stations would be set up under the environment department along with establishing 15 water quality monitoring stations.
