24 students injured as two varsity buses collide.

RAHIM YAR KHAN -- At least 24 students of the Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT) were injured on Tuesday when a varsity bus collided with another bus while overtaking a tractor-trolley on Abu Dahbi Road, some 7kms from here.

According to varsity sources, a KFUEIT bus was returning after picking students from various points in the city on its route, when near Amman Garh its driver tried to overtake a tractor-trolley overloaded with iron rods and other material.

Because of dense fog, the driver could not see the protruding iron rods on the trolley and on suddenly sensing the situation applied emergency brakes.

Meanwhile, another KFUEIT bus that was closely following it hit its rear end.

As a result, some 24 students were injured, including the bus driver.

Rescue 1122 ambulances that were called to the spot, shifted the injured students and the driver to the Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) for treatment.

The panicked parents of the injured students who rushed to the hospital on being informed of the accident, complained of lack of proper arrangements for their treatment at SZMCH emergency ward.

The parents of some of the students said they were charged Rs200 for the X-Ray process, despite government claims of free of cost emergency services at the hospital.

The injured students also complained that no varsity official visited the hospital to inquire after them.
