SHIKARPUR -- Sixteen more persons tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday, raising tally of Covid-19 patients in the district to 151, among them 138 cases of local transmission.

Health officials said the new patients included six children, three woman and seven men. The administration has sealed Hyderi locality where the new cases have surfaced to prevent further spread of the virus.

MIRPURKHAS: A nurse at Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital and two men in Jhuddo town tested positive for the contagion on Sunday.

The staff nurse at gynaecology ward in the civil hospital had probably contracted the virus from her husband who had tested positive for the virus two days ago. The couple was sent to isolation ward in Tando Allahyar where they belonged.

Civil surgeon Dr Harchand Ray said that he had received directives to conduct test of two female doctors and staff at the gynaecology ward.

Meanwhile, the district administration sealed a general store in Jhuddo where the virus had reportedly infected the two men. The number of Covid-19 patients has risen to 21 in the district.

SANGHAR: Eight people tested positive for the virus in different areas of the town on Sunday.

Health officials said that four people tested positive in Housing Society whose family member had already contracted the virus. Three employees of Shahpur Chakar Rural Health Centre and one man in Khipro were found to have the contagion.

They said that all patients had been quarantined at their homes. Three Covid-19 patients who were quarantined at Sanghar Civil Hospital tested positive in the second test. Five patients from Tando Adam had fully recovered as their repeat tests had turned out to be negative, said the officials.

HYDERABAD: A 90-year-old man who suffered from multiple ailments and also tested positive for Covid-19 after he was admitted to Liaquat University Hospital died on Sunday.
