16 cattle found dead at dairy farm.

TOBA TEK SINGH -- On Thursday, 16 cows and buffaloes belonging to a dairy farmer died in Samundri's Chak 548-GB.

Farmer Malik Asghar Ali Wattoo told reporters that 16 of his 28 animals were out in the open, while the others were behind a shed, and those out in the open were found dead the next morning.

His loss was calculated to be Rs6.4 million.

According to Chaudhry Ghulam Haider, director of the Faisalabad Livestock and Dairy Development Department, a mobile veterinary testing laboratory and a team of veterinary doctors took samples from the stomachs of some of the animals, and an inquiry team was formed to determine the cause of the animals' death.

Chak 550-GB Veterinary Hospital in charge Dr Tanweer Ahmad said a bottle of rat-killing medicine fell on the wheat husk stack. The medicines, he alleged, were fed to the 16 animals along with husk and grain.

JICA: Ambassador of Japan Mitsuhiro Wada and Provincial Minister for Mines and Minerals Latif Nazar Gujjar laid the foundation for a major water treatment plant project in Faisalabad on Thursday.

The project will cost Rs7.25 billion to complete in partnership with Wasa and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Up to Rs1 billion will be spent on pumping apparatus replacement at the booster pump station and terminal reservoir.
