10-day festival 'Women Move Mountains' will start from Dec 1.

ISLAMABAD -- A 10-day Pakistan Mountain Festival will start here from December 1 with the theme of "Women Move Mountains" at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), said a joint press briefing here on Thursday.

It is a public advocacy event by DEVCOM-Pakistan that is largest festival promoting mountains and its people. Mountain heritage and culture has been vanishing due to urbanisation and climate impact, said Munir Ahmed, CEO, DEVCOM-Pakistan.

Women are important for craft management, its branding and packaging and this year, we will focus on this, he said.

Fareena Mazhar, Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division said that mountain festival is an important tool to educate people towards climate change and the threats to environment. Pakistan is badly affected by climate change and its cultural heritage is also being affected and it is the time to think about it.

Abdul Sattar Khokhar, Senior Joint Secretary, National Heritage and Culture Division said our rich cultural heritage belongs to mountains including Kalasha culture that highlights mountain women empowerment.
