1,623 conferred degrees at Sindh University's convocation.

HYDERABAD -- The University of Sindh conferred a total of 1,623 degrees on recipients and of them 38 received PhD, 118 MS and MPhil and the remaining 1,467 were awarded Masters and Bachelors degrees at convocation 2017-18 in Jamshoro on Saturday.

The chief guest, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Universities and Boards Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, presented degrees to graduates at the ceremony which was held in Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Convention Centre where gold and silver medals besides degrees were conferred upon successful graduates.

A number of graduates who had topped in their faculties were honoured with chancellor's gold medals, eight best students were given Dr N.A. Baloch gold medals and scores of other top position holders were decorated with VC's silver medals.

Besides, four scholars were awarded special gold medals for meritorious services in their respective fields. They were; Prof Asif Ali G. Kazi, Badar Abro, Dr Khalid Iqbal Talpur, Jhamatmal Jethanand and Prof Dr Nasreen Memon.

Khuhro congratulated the degree recipients and said that higher education was fundamental for the growth of present knowledge-based society as it contributed to income growth, labour productivity, entrepreneurial energy and quality of life.

He said that higher education enhanced social mobility, encouraged political participation, strengthened civil society and promoted democratic governance through creation of new knowledge which served as a catalyst for rapid development.

He said that economic growth was an important factor in poverty alleviation and led to improvement in quality of life at all levels of society. He was happy to note that Sindh University was progressing at a fast pace under the present vice chancellor.
