1,100 Sikh pilgrims arrive with gold Palki.

LAHORE -- The first batch of some 1,100 Sikh pilgrims along with a gold Palki for Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, arrived here through Wagah Border on Thursday.

The Sikh pilgrims later left for Nankana Sahib.

The Palki will be installed at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, in connection with the 550th birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak.

The Indian authorities had stopped the bus that was carrying the gold Palki as well as group leader Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi President Paramjit Singh Sarna at Attari border. The pilgrims were carrying the Palki on their shoulders.

The Sikh pilgrims, welcomed by Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Amir Ameer Khan, paid glowing tributes to the Pakistan government for putting in place effective measures for the birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak. MPA Mahindarpal Singh, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee President Sardar Satunat Singh, Rangers officials and others were also present.
